| “The word "community" has old roots, going back to the Indo-European base mei, meaning "change" or "exchange." Mei joined with another root, kom, meaning "with," to produce an Indo-European word kommein: shared by all. (Juanita Brown)
Ask “what makes a community” and people will be quick to tell you it’s much more than bricks and mortar, streets or strip malls. Beyond most surface descriptors as places to live, work or raise a family, there are deep psychological, emotional, spiritual and cultural realms that shape peoples’ concepts of community. The question is: In this day and age of increasing technology and globalization, does community matter anymore; does “sharing” and being a good neighbour have relevance; does anyone really care? At myCommunity we care.
At myCommunity, our vision is to help promote a sense of community by helping local businesses to recognize important occasions in the lives of fellow community members. We want to play a part in the celebration of small-town life and help improve and beautify the esprit de corps of communities. |
